Our First Nickle Dickle Days: A Little Rain, A Lot of Support & Lessons Learned Along The Way

Nickle Dickle Booth Set UP

This past weekend, Flipp & Co packed up our collections and headed to Nickle Dickle Day in Waconia, Minnesota!

As a newly launched small business, getting to bring Flipp & Co out into the community and share what I've been working on was something I had been looking forward to.

And while the day didn't go exactly as planned (hello, Minnesota weather!), it was filled with moments that reminded me why I started this business in the first place.

Here's a little look behind the scenes at our first Nickle Dickle Day.

A Rainy Start to Our Pop-Up

If there's one thing you can't control when planning an outdoor event in Minnesota, it's the weather.

We were met with rain and some pretty chilly temperatures, which wasn't exactly the fall day I had envisioned for our pop-up.

But we made the most of it!

I was happy with how our booth came together. Seeing our coordinating family collections displayed in person, rather than just on a screen, was such a fun part of the experience.

From the cozy baby pieces to our coordinating styles for kids and adults, it was exciting to finally have everything together in one space for people to explore.

And despite the less-than-ideal weather, we still had plenty of meaningful interactions throughout the day.

The Conversations That Made It Worthwhile

One of the biggest highlights of the day wasn't something I could measure in sales.

It was hearing people's reactions to the idea behind Flipp & Co.

We had so many people stop by and tell us what a genius idea they thought it was. Others shared that they wished something like this had existed when their kids were little.

Those conversations meant more than people probably realized.

When you're building a business from scratch, you spend so much time behind a computer working on inventory, website details, marketing, packaging, and all the little things that happen behind the scenes.

Getting to step outside of that and hear people connect with the idea in person was incredibly encouraging.

The whole reason I started Flipp & Co was to make coordinating family outfits easier. Not necessarily matching from head to toe, but finding thoughtfully selected pieces that work beautifully together without having to shop at five different stores.

Hearing people understand that vision was such a special part of the day.

And a fun little milestone? We actually ran out of business cards!

I'm hoping that means we'll be seeing a few more familiar faces around here.

What We Learned About Our Collections

It was a valuable opportunity to see what people gravitated toward when shopping in person. Our baby pieces were definitely the favorites, making up the majority of what we sold. We also sold a couple of girls' items.

Our adult pieces didn't find their way into any shopping bags this time around, but that's helpful information to take into future events as we continue learning what our customers are looking for.

That's one thing I'm quickly discovering about running a small business: every event teaches you something.

Sometimes it's about what sells. Sometimes it's about how people interact with your products. And sometimes it's simply about getting your name in front of new people.

All of those things matter as Flipp & Co continues to grow.

The Little Things We'll Do Differently Next Time

I walked away feeling good about our overall booth setup, but there's already one thing I know I want to change.

Our giveaway! We had a giveaway available at the booth, but looking back, I think it was a little too hidden. Next time, I want to bring it front and center so everyone walking by knows they can enter without feeling like they need to make a purchase first.

It's a small adjustment, but one that I think will make the experience more welcoming and give us another opportunity to connect with families who are just discovering Flipp & Co.

Every event is a chance to learn, adjust, and make the next one a little better.

The Support That Meant the Most

One of my favorite parts of the entire day was seeing so many of my mom friends stop by.

There is something really special about having people show up for you when you're building something new. Whether they came to shop, check out the booth, or simply say hello, having that support meant the world to me.

Starting a business is exciting, but it also comes with plenty of uncertainty. There are moments when you're wondering whether you're making the right decisions, whether people will connect with your vision, and whether all the work you're putting in will eventually pay off.

Then you have days like this. Days when familiar faces show up, strangers tell you they love your idea, and you're reminded that there's a community cheering you on.

Those are the moments I want to hold onto.

What's Next for Flipp & Co?

Nickle Dickle Day was another step in bringing Flipp & Co to life beyond our online store. We're taking everything we learned from this event and bringing it into our next pop-ups, from adjusting our booth layout to continuing to learn which pieces our customers love most.

And if you weren't able to stop by, you can still explore our coordinating family collections online!

Thank You, Waconia!

To everyone who stopped by our booth, shared a kind word, picked up a business card, made a purchase, or simply took a moment to learn about Flipp & Co—thank you.

And to my mom friends who came out to support me, I appreciate you more than you know.

The day may have been a little rainy and chilly, and the sales may not have been exactly what I had hoped for, but I walked away with new lessons, meaningful conversations, and plenty of reasons to keep going.

Here's to the next pop-up, the next lesson, and all the little moments in between.

With love,

Melissa
